Looking for a light and refreshing beverage that has incredible health and beauty benefits? Our beauty elixir may be the answer. If you are only here for the recipe, scroll to the bottom! If not, stick around because we are going to be talking about this refreshing beauty elixir and all the health benefits it can provide.

Let's start with Sproos Beauty Collagen.

Marine Collagen

Our Beauty Collagen is a combination of 6 active ingredients including marine collagen. Marine collagen is an excellent source of type I collagen and has been raved about for its benefits to skin, hair and nails. This is because type I is the most abundant type of collagen in our skin. It plays a big role in the firmness and elasticity of our skin. Many different studies have been conducted investigating the effect of marine collagen on the appearance of skin, and you can read more about that here.

Acerola

Acerola is a plant with similar fruits to cherry trees! It is one of the best and richest sources of vitamin C. Vitamin C plays an important job in our bodies, helping in the production of collagen and as an antioxidant. When our bodies are producing collagen, vitamin C is required to complete the process! In addition, vitamin C is a strong antioxidant. This means that it works to fight free radicals in the body. Free radicals are molecules that can accumulate in the body and cause damage to cells, resulting in aging. This can often be seen in skin; overtime exposure to these free radicals causes wrinkles and loss of firmness of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid (also referred to as HA) is an incredible substance that is found all throughout the body. HA provides incredible hydration because it has a unique ability: it can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water. Yes, that's right, 1000 times! HA can help to attract and maintain hydration in the body. This can be especially important in the appearance of skin as hydrated skin is happy skin.

Zinc

Zinc is an essential mineral, meaning that we need it in our diet for normal bodily function. Zinc also acts as an antioxidant, just as vitamin C. This means that it helps to fight against damaging free radicals that can cause changes to the appearance of skin. Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss and skin lesions, making it imperative to have enough zinc in your diet. Don't freak out though, in North America a zinc deficiency is quite rare!

Silica

Silica is trace element found in our bodies. This means that we only need a small amount of it. But, don't be fooled, this doesn't make it any less important! While there still is much research to be conducted on the health benefits of silica, it is well established as an important element in connective tissue. Silica is found in our hair, skin and nails, and just like collagen plays a role in the structure of these components.

Biotin

Biotin is an essential vitamin and is important to our hair, skin and nails. It has shown to improve hair growth in women with thinning hair. In fact, being deficient in biotin can result in poor skin, hair and nails.

Why is there coconut water in our Beauty Elixir?

Other than coconut water being absolutely delicious, it also provides great hydration. Coconut water also has some electrolytes including potassium and sodium. Plus, it adds a great flavour to our beauty elixir! It can be tough to drink the recommended number of cups of water per day (8 cups!), so swap out a glass of water for this yummy beverage. Drink up!
